Considering A Treatment Foster Care License?

Weigh these thoughts …

Personal skills, practices, background and characteristics must be carefully reviewed in order to qualify a person to become a TFC parent. Your careful thought to the following questions will be useful to you as you consider your application.

It becomes critical that you take time to evaluate your own personal qualities. Remember, receiving a TFC license is a privilege and not a guarantee.

  1. Can you focus high levels of energy on the needs of another?
  2. Can you devote time to fully supervise the child when not in school (before & after school, sick, suspended, weekends, summers)?
  3. Can you demonstrate your consistent respect of a child?
  4. Can you still give, care and nurture even if the child is not capable of giving back or showing you respect?
  5. Do you communicate by being really listening to the other person’s viewpoints?
  6. Are you a team player and enjoy sharing & receiving information?
  7. Are you well organized and able to turn in paperwork on time?
  8. Would you be able to follow an action plan and write an objective report on the child's behavior?
  9. Are you patient, able to keep a clear head and able to control your anger?
  10. Are you emotionally stable?
  11. Are you financially stable?
  12. Can you provide a safe, growth-promoting environment?
  13. Do you reside within a 60-minute drive of Albuquerque?
  14. Are you free of a criminal background and free of child abuse allegations?
  15. Do you seek opportunities to learn new skills, to know more about yourself as a person?
